For those of us that suffer from (or have previously experienced) any form of back pain, we all know that correct exercise is extremely important in aiding recovery. However, knowing and doing can sometimes be very different things. Exercising itself can be very difficult when the pain is so high. We know we should be doing the exercises as told, but due to the pain, and usually various other excuses we tend never to find the time to ever get started — either that or we begin with the best intentions but then let’s exercise sessions slowly tail off.
Well, that is fair enough. But, you know you should exercise if you want to recover as soon as possible — so how about just starting with something simple, and concentrating on only one area?
Yes, big things can certainly come with taking baby steps towards bigger goal. Therefore the rest of this article will concentrate on building strength in the main area of the body — “the core”.
In layman’s terms, the core of the body is defined as the bulk of your body excluding arms and legs. Concentrate on this area and not only willing to strengthen you enough that your back pain should hopefully subside, but strengthening the core will in effect strengthen the entire body, aiding in posture and balance.
You’ll find quite a few exercises available to strengthen in the core, the main ones being yoga, Pilates and basic stretching exercises — not too strenuous or difficult to do for a few minutes each day. Which ever you choose, be sure to make the intention of sticking to the exercise of the long-term, as doing a couple of sessions and then giving up will be of no help whatsoever.
The core of the body includes the muscles of the upper and lower back, obliques (sides), abdominal and chest area, so it is not only restricted to the front or back of the body — it is the entire area, front to back. Strengthening these muscles will do absolutely wonder’s full supporting your entire body.
Think about strength endurance professionals or competition weightlifters. Have you ever noticed the thick wide belt they wear which tightens around the lower back and stomach? Well, we don’t need to go quite this far but I was just trying to illustrate to you the positive benefits of strengthening that particular area of the body.
Building the core of the body can bring amazing benefits, in a short period of time. If your structure has great support, it is more than likely that your pain will disappear, perhaps for good if it emanated due to poor posture or other condition.
As I’m sure you know, certain pain can be absolutely crippling, sometimes literally preventing you from doing everyday tasks.
I remember it even being difficult to walk down the stairs (when I suffered with back pain before)…

Back pain can be an awful thing. Especially when those around you cannot understand the excruciating torment you go through on a daily basis.
How many times have you been told “don’t worry about it, it can’t be that bad!”, or “Just get a few days rest, you’ll be alright soon” Huh, if only they knew.
