there are several potential vaccines in the works but the earliest date I've heard thrown out was 2012-2014 which we all know with vaccines isnt set in stone.

they could get it into human trials and find out its worthless and have to start all over again.

the problem with getting a good vaccine is that its really really hard to get one that can pass through the membranes to the nerve ganglia in the spinal cord which is exactly where herpes likes to sequester itself. Its just that whole blood/brain barrier that makes it really hard. If it werent for this, there'd probably be no reason for a cure as the bodies immune system quite effectively attacks it when it wakes out of dormancy and expresses itself on the skin.

this is why outbreaks dont really last that long after the initial outbreak, we have antibodies that attack it very effectively. It just retreats into the nervous system where those specific antibodies cant get to it….and vaccines are based off of inactivated viral particles most often…which helps the body to make antibodies BEFORE initial infection occurs.

Sadly, no. A number of vaccines are in the works (I participated in a study aiming to develop one a few months back) but none exist at the moment, and there are no vaccines to prevent people from getting it, either. If a product claims to cure herpes, it's not true; the most you can manage is suppressing the virus until it is almost completely dormant and there's a very low risk of passing it on to anyone.

No, there is no cure. They have the HPV vaccine for the 4 worst types of genital herpes, but that is only good for preventive and not useful once already infected. They can also give antivirals to try to help the reoccurrence (but you can still pass on herpes without any symptoms).
